The Japan New Year’s Association is hosting a contest for waka poems to be featured in their new AR Fortune-telling Slips (patent pending). Traditionally, fortune-telling slips (omikuji) were based on waka poems interpreted as messages from the gods to predict good or bad fortune. This contest seeks modern, emotive waka poems for a new generation of AR-enhanced fortune-telling experience.

Usage of Selected Works
- 応募作品は、ＡＲおみくじなどの商品として商品化されたり、「みんなのお正月全集」や「月刊お正月」に掲載される場合があります。
- ５月３日、大阪・関西万博会場内で、中間発表をおこなうことがあります。
- 採用者の中から優秀作品には記念品を贈呈いたします。
（※全員にプレゼントが渡されるわけではありません） - Submitted poems may be used in AR fortune-telling products or published in “Everyone’s New Year Collection” and “Monthly New Year” publications. Interim results may be announced at the Osaka-Kansai Expo venue on May 3. Selected outstanding works will receive commemorative gifts (note: not all participants will receive prizes).

Concept
Fortune-telling slips traditionally include poems (Chinese or Japanese) considered gifts from heaven, with interpretations that reveal fortunes and predictions. The first “AR Historical Fortune-telling Slips” respected this tradition while innovating the experience through AR technology.
This second edition will develop new AR fortune-telling slips using contemporary waka poems collected through this public contest. The project envisions collaborations with Kumamoto Prefecture’s “Ku●mon” and Gunma Prefecture’s “Gu●ma-chan” mascots to create participatory, region-promoting AR fortune-telling experiences.

もともとおみくじは、和歌や漢詩といった「うた」を天からの授かり物として賜り、その内容の解釈として「吉や凶」、「待人」、「失物」といった項目に分けられるものでした。つまり、おみくじの本体は「うた」であり、吉や凶などの項目は「解説文」という立ち位置にあります。

ご当地キャラクターの中でも、特にくまモン（熊本県）・ぐんまちゃん（群馬県）については、「地域の魅力発信のためならば、ライセンス料不要でキャラクターを使用できる」、という特徴があります。そこで、これらのキャラクターをＡＲコンテンツとして登場させる新たな「ご当地ＡＲおみくじ」を開発するため、特に重点的に募集をおこないます。
ただし、熊本県、群馬県以外の「ご当地ＡＲおみくじ」も今後は開発していきたいので、それ以外の地域の和歌も募集しています。

この募集での「和歌」とは、「五・七・五・七・七の形式になっている詩や歌で、できるだけ情緒的な表現をしているもの」としています。
「和歌」や「短歌」の定義や区別には、様々な見解があります。今回の募集では、「五・七・五・七・七の形式になっている詩や歌」を募集しており、「できるだけ情緒的な詩や歌の方が好ましい」という想いで、「和歌」として募集しています。
「五・七・五・七・七の形式」になっていれば、基本的に全て審査の対象となりますが、「どちらかといえば情緒的な方が採用されやすい」というイメージをお持ちいただければ幸いです。厳密な短歌との区別は重視していません。
